Winter Climbing Season and New Field Work, 2024

From November through April, the high country is buried in deep snow and scoured by unrelenting wind. Given the extreme demands of winter climbing (which also includes avalanche mitigation and preparedness), I get out when the weather and conditions are "moderate" by seasonal standards.

I thought it would be interesting to share some recent images that have had some staying power through the editorial process here on the home page of my website. I'll be rotating them from time to time, so come back when you have a moment to see what's new.

This particular image was made during an ascent of Mount Sinktau, one of the more accessible 13ers during the winter months.
